That was fine in the first two films, where Katniss is only slowly getting her education, but the last two films need to be about Katniss realizing how little will actually change due to her actions. Originally, there were thirteen districts in Panem. Plus, the last 20 minutes or so create this headlong rush toward whatever the next movie is going to be, a sense that the world is coming apart at the seams and real change is possible.

A few strong clues about the appropriate age: authors usually set the age of the main character to indicate the intended audience; Katniss is 16 in the first book of the series. I was in a horrible mood. They blithely, consciously missed the entire point of the series in a way the series itself anticipated — not to mention a way that also seems like the perfect presaging of the post-ironic, post-dystopian reality we have entered since. The New Testament content of the film is also hard to miss—at least according to those who home in on the triangle of main characters. The Capitol took her stunt with the berries as an act of defiance, so she has to convince everyone that she was desperate at the thought of losing Peeta and not being rebellious, or even her family could be at risk. She does an excellent job of vividly describing children killing one another. In Katniss' eyes: Prim's face is as fresh as a raindrop, as lovely as the primrose for which she was named… That's why my mother and Prim, with their light hair and blue eyes, always look out of place.

I'm somewhat fascinated by her hair, since it's so uniform, so without a flaw, a wisp, even a split end. Another announcement promises that what each survivor needs the most will be provided at the Cornucopia the next morning. But Cinna's close cropped hair appears to be its natural shade of brown. Prim protests her sister taking her place, but is overruled as Gale takes hold of her, so Katniss can reach the stage to be introduced to the crowd as one of the tributes for District 12. Any living victor is invited to the Capitol to come alongside the tributes and to watch the Games live. The winning district also receives parcels of food from the Capitol for a year. I compared the two a lot when we read Hunger Games.
